[...and the price for the longest 100-150 words in this section goes to...]

Since leaving Uni: - Worked for Sony for 2 years in a sort of sales/logistics/marketing role ->> translate that to dogsbody. The job bored me within 2 months but it was my first taste of working in a large company. It was a bit odd working with some of the Japanese managers as their management style (non-confrontational) was different from what I was used too. It was hard to get anything accomplished that required a managers authorization. The people I worked with were good fun, and from all corners of the world, which was a plus point of the job. As a result I got "settled", but realised my career (such as it is) was going nowhere so i decided to leave. I just heard from friends that they made 40 % of the dept. redundant.

- my next job was hideous : I worked for a whole 4 months as an account manager looking after three German Distributors. Within 1 day I realised it encorporated everything I hate most in a job : presentations, er...more presentations, and spending my time telling people off, travelling in Germany, or, taking the blame for other people's mistakes. I also was in a small team of 4 account mangers who were on the whole a nice bunch of people but the job just wasn't me so you guessed it I left.

- Current position is in IT, and at last I have found my niche in life. Its stressful at times but the poeple are a good, easy going bunch of people. I also enjoy the job as it is demanding and never static. Basically I help people restore / backup their networks which means you need to have some knowledge of NT4/W2K, Exchange, SQL, Fibre channel, SCSI, clusters etc etc.

I have moved to reading a few months ago as the commuting was killing what little brain matter i had left after 3 semesters of Statistics (Glockensteuenkurve, or something is about all i remember)/ Economics (...er...)/ Marketing (Ansoff's Matrix?). On the whole I think I am her to stay. I support the German speaking customers so I think my German is probably better than it ever was. In case you are not yet asleep, I work for Veritas , which is a "global player" with a "proactive" approach to...er....I think I will stop there.

Do I think the BAEBA course helped me in my career ? No, is the short answer, but with the benefit of hindsight I should of quit after 1 year as I found it (for the most part) quite dull. I enjoyed the structure and the travelling and the people on the course, but the academic side was not for me. My birthday is on 20- Dec this year I will be 25 years old, married (oh hang on thats Chris) and expecting my second set of Quadruplets...OK I won't be but, will people actually finish reading what I have written ...mmmm...lets see.

Anyway, greetings to all wherever they may be

Andrew

Anja Blacha

I've been working for Rolls-Royce Deutschland (formerly BMW Rolls-Royce) now for almost 4 years (boring eh?) The company still develops and produces aircraft engines for smaller aeroplanes up to 120 seats. The effects of the 11 September have hit us too and halfed the production. Anyway, I worked as an assistant, also to a member of the company board, for 3 years and since Sep 01 I'm in Personnel and Organisational Development.

As a department we are responsible for the training and development of our people as well as consultation for team building, organisational changes and individual measures. The job holds many challenges and lots to learn for the future.

On a private note I am still living in Berlin. My boyfriend and I have just moved from Tempelhof to Lichtenrade to a bigger flat. We are usually very busy travelling, meeting friends and family, enjoying sun and nature... I guess it's just a normal life.

Annett Schluckwerder

Was gibts noch ueber den Job zu sagen: viel Streß, viele Überstunden, mässige Bezahlung, schlechtes Wetter, viel Dreckarbeit, wenig Urlaub, wenig Schlaf; Great Fun & Great People & Excellent Experience...

In every so called merger between two companies there are those that benefit and those that don't. In the 'merger' between Frango and Cognos (or rather the takeover of the former by the latter) I am one of the winners. The takeover and following change in management style has given me the energy necessary to find a new job. As of Wednesday, May 18th 2005 I will be working for a company called Inca Software (http://www.incasoftware.co.uk). Inca are a Cognos partner, so I will be working with the same prodcuts but in an environment that will be more to my liking.

Current Job: Office Manager for Real Office Pty Ltd, a IT focused serviced office in Sydney.

We rent out boardroom space and work space (by the hour), as well as phone and fax line (we answer anyone's phones in their company name and divert all calls etc.), access to out LAN and Internet etc. The whole scheme is aimed at mobile business people, eg consultants with laptops and mobile phones who need a base in the City and paying a month's rent for a City office doesn't make sense, cuz they're never there or people working from home, who need a better place than their living room to have meeting with clients ans who'd like to have the perception of a professional office. I'll let U have the URL once it's ready.

Carmen Pars

For the last few years I was looking for the perfect job. Either the job wasn't nice or the place where I worked at wasn't too nice, so I had quite some difficulties to find something.
But now since April I'm working for the Magic Life company (also see www.magiclife.com) in one of their clubs in Antalya/Turkey. I have found a job as Guest Service Manager, which means I'm basically responsible for everything that has something to do with the guests in the hotel. I need to try to make all the guest happy, and this is sometimes not easily done. And don't even think that I can lay on the beach the whole day. So I'm kind of a quality controler inside the hotel. The job is a lot of fun, because you're getting together with lots of different people every day and you are facing many different problems each day.
Anyone who wants to come for nice holiday, feel free to contact me.

On a private side I live in Turkey for 3 1/2 years now. I came here to live together with my boyfriend and what can I say .... he's my husband now. Yes, I got married on February 2nd, 2002. I'm still very happy here and I don't regret coming here. So if anyone feels like visiting Turkey, please come here. [If you want to get in touch with Carmen, let me know and I will send you her details. Tom]

Carola Otte

I am with the business consultancy part of PricewaterhouseCoopers as (guess what) a business consultant. Although still living in Berlin, I work away from home Monday through Friday. After two years in Ruesselsheim and one in Cologne, I am currently on an SAP implementation project in Zurich, co-ordinating SAP training of client staff. I am getting more and more annoyed at not being able to sleep in my own bed during the week and constantly working ridiculous hours, but then who's there to complain about having a job nowadays...

What can I add to Andy Garvie's synopsis of my life from May - June 2002? Not much I guess except to confirm I did indeed get married to Stephanie (in case you haven't already checked it out, there isa link on the news page of this very site to some pictures of the event) and I actually turned 26 this year, not 25, but you all worked that out from my date of birth didn't you.

Since the heady, carefree days of uni life I have worked for the grand total of 2 companies. In 1999 I started working at Tate & Lyle in a job that was more mind-numbing than anything I can't remember studying! So after putting up with it for 2 years (18 months of which was spent looking for something else), I struck gold. I now work in Putney for the UK Advertising Sales office of Axel Springer Verlag - publishers of, amongst many other things, the marvellous, high-brow publication that is "Bild".

Otherwise, I live in Croydon and I don't have a favourite reindeer, but if anybody wants to convince me one's better than the others feel free.

Harald Berlinicke

I have spent the past 6 years since graduation working for two banks (Bankgesellschaft Berlin and The Toronto-Dominion Bank) in the specialised field of structured finance. Since March 2000 I have been London-based during which time I qualified as a Chartered Financial Analyst (for more details see www.cfainstitute.org).
I have just accepted a terrific entrepreneurial challenge as Partner / Senior Portfolio Manager, Asset Backed Securities at New Bond Street Asset Management LLP, a newly formed credit fund manager, focusing on corporate credits and structured finance.
Initially, we will manage assets for our corporate partner Kaupthing Bank, the largest Icelandic bank. From 2005 onwards, we will actively pursue 3rd party mandates to leverage our platform.
At foundation the firm has a total of 12 partners and employees with a plan to grow the number to 14 by year end 2004 and further in 2005 depending on new business volume.
I am planning to offer a placement opportunity to APU business students, preferably to a 3rd year European Business student.
What's on offer? A hands-on involvement at an exciting start-up which will give you good insights into the banking / asset management / hedge fund world of finance. Plus a great view of Oxford Street & London's West End from a top-floor office thrown in for free...
Get in touch, if you are interested.

For almost 4 years now I have been living in Cologne, currently working for Family Frost in Mettmann near Duesseldorf (visit www.family-frost.com). We are a sister company to Eismann and daughter to Schoeller (which in turn belongs to Nestle). We distribute icecream and frozen food on a street vending basis in East Germany as well as Spain, Portugal and 5 East European countries. I am working in the international marketing dpt., where we look for synergies in the marketing activities of our 8 subsidiaries (to say it in a nutshell...!).

Privately, I am living together with my boyfriend Holger and am still very close with my friends from EBA, namely Anja, Carmen, Daniela and Gwen (see also www.eba98.co.uk/people/quintett.htm). I would also love to see everybody else again next year when we will hopefully have a get-together after 5 years!

Greetings to everyone,

Michaela

After having left the sunnier climes of Cambridge in the summer of 1998, to move down to the supposedly even sunnier climes of the so-called Garden of England that is Kent, I have yet to move on. Currently working as Marketing Manager for Salter Housewares Ltd, the UK's brand leader in kitchen and bathroom scales. Yes, doesn't sound all that glam, in fact, it mostly isn't especially as it is based on Tonbridge, hardly the party capital of the South East, but it gets me some good trips overseas a couple of times a year.
